1. When Do We Use the Present Simple?
The Present Simple is used for daily routines and habits, things that happen regularly, general facts and truths, and permanent situations.
- I go to school every day.
- She likes English.
- The sun rises in the east.
2. Affirmative Form
Subject + base verb. For he / she / it, we add -s or -es: He plays football. She reads books. It rains a lot in winter.
3. Negative Form
We use don't or doesn't. The main verb always stays in the base form.
- I don't like coffee.
- He does not play tennis.
4. Question Form
We use Do or Does at the beginning. The main verb stays in the base form.
- Do you like English?
- Does she go to school by bus?
5. Common Mistakes ESL Students Make
❌ Incorrect: He play football.
✅ Correct: He plays football.
- Forgetting -s with he / she / it
- Using the wrong verb form after does
- Confusing present simple with present continuous
