Form of the Simple Past

  • Regular verbs: play → played

Advice for Students

1. Look for Time Words

Time expressions help you decide the tense.

If the time is finished, use simple past. If not, use present perfect.

3. Practice with Examples

The more examples you practice, the easier it becomes.

Conclusion

Understanding the difference between the present perfect and simple past helps students speak and write more accurately. With clear explanation, examples, and practice, ESL students can master both tenses successfully.
